Make your bed!

No, seriously, make your bed.

Changing the world is a daunting task.  It’s often used in our vocabulary to inspire and to cast a vision. But if you think about it, it seems almost impossible for one person to take on this challenge.  So the trying stops and the vision fades.

I have a new solution, instead of focusing on changing the world, how about we focus on making our bed every morning.  Huh? Watch this short video, I cut it to 1:30 minutes for the impatient.

Did you see it? Here’s the quick summary.

  • Making your bed will help you accomplish your first task of the day.  It gives you a small sense of pride, done in perfection will lead to your next task, and your next…
  • Making your bed will reinforce the fact that little things do matter, if you can’t do little things right, you won’t be able to do the big things right.
  • Making your bed will help you enjoy it when you come home.

Josh Harder (Pastor at Mi Vereda Church in Mexico City) said these words to us during our trip that really hit home for me.  “Our primary objective in life isn’t to change the world. It’s simply to love those around us. When we love those around us, it will change the world around them, which will change the world.”

It all starts from a simple task, and doing it well. It all starts from a simple gesture of kindness, gentleness, forgiveness, grace…which leads to love, which leads to…wait for it…changing the world.
