Resume that changed me

I remember about 8 years ago when I was going through one of the most challenging times of my life…I was going through a stack of 100 resume’s to find a perfect candidate for a position in our office. When I finally came across the resume that “screamed” out at me, I said “we’ve GOT to hire this person! She runs marathons….don’t you think that if you can endure and overcome the physical, mental and emotional challenges of a marathon, you can pretty much overcome anything?”

My training for my very first 26.2 mile marathon started soon after my epiphany. Barely being able to run 3 miles, I slowly worked my way up to being able to run 20 miles without stopping…I was ready for a full blown marathon…I couldn’t believe it. I definitely took a physical and a mental beating to get to that point…but it felt great to overcome. In fact, I remember running past the finish line in the LA marathon 2005, with my hands in the air in victory with tears streaming down my face…I’ll never forget that moment.

As pivital as that moment was…it felt a little strange….as I saw the people around me with all different sizes, shapes and backgrounds…running with determination in their stride. With their sponsored shirts written “In memory of..” or “In victory of…” or “In awareness of…” their loved ones, sickness and causes…..they weren’t just running to overcome their own challenges, they were running for a higher purpose…higher purpose to make a difference…something that’s bigger and greater than themselves….

World vision is an incredible non profit organization which has been very dear to the hearts of our family, we’ve all heard the stories and even visited and seen the devastation, poverty, injustice, abuse and hunger that no child should ever experience or go through. Knowing that now, and knowing that we must turn our convictions into action…it sparked a new energy within me to run again, this time for something bigger then myself. Would you partner with me in this? I will be running with my sponsor shirt which reads…”world vision” I am committed to training and running the race to overcome the physical and mental pains of my own for the higher purpose…to somehow in a small way help overcome the challenges of the oppressed. here’s a simple link to sponsor my goal to raise $1500. Let’s make a difference together…
